Barcelona want to sign Arsenal central defender William Saliba if they cannot land Jules Kounde this summer.
Journalist Gerard Romero says that Saliba is among the list of alternatives being considered if Barca cannot get his countryman Kounde from Sevilla.
Saliba has taken part in Arsenal’s pre-season programme and looks set to finally be integrated into Mikel Arteta’s squad for the season ahead.
Last season’s loan with Marseille has brought Saliba on leaps and bounds to the extent that he became a full French international before making a competitive appearance for Arsenal.
Barcelona want Saliba
Barcelona have beaten Arsenal to the signing of Raphinha already this summer, bringing to an end a long-running saga.
Barca’s financial troubles are well-known but they seem to be getting high-profile players in and they want another central defender.
They have already landed Andreas Christensen from Chelsea, and could be set for another swoop on a London club to get Saliba.
The Frenchman, branded as ‘amazing’ by Bacary Sagna, played 52 times in all competitions for Les Olympiens last term and needs to keep playing regularly this season.
It remains to be seen if he will get that at Arsenal, although the Europa League could be one way for Mikel Arteta to introduce him to the side.
It seems there is plenty to be done before Saliba is a Barca player, but they are keen on him from the looks of it, despite the fact he has said he wants to say at Arsenal beyond the summer.
