Chelsea to re-sign 24-years old experienced defender as Antonio Rudiger replacement

Chelsea are reportedly planning to re-sign centre-back Fikayo Tomori as a replacement for outgoing Antonio Rudiger.

According to Fichajes, former Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori is among the centre-backs the Blues are considering to cover up for outgoing defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Both the Chelsea defenders are approaching the end of their contracts with the Blues and are set to move to Spain.

Both  Rudiger and Christensen’s expiring contracts have been keeping Chelsea busy over the last few months. They have failed to convince the two centre-backs to extend their stay with the club, and the sanctions imposed on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has further hampered their cause.

While Rudiger is set to join Real Madrid on a free deal this summer, Christensen is expected to join Madrid’s arch-rivals Barcelona. With two first-choice centre-backs set to depart, Chelsea are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements and have identified Tomori as one possible signing.

Tomori is a Chelsea academy product and spent 16 years with them across age groups before moving to AC Milan permanently in the 2021 summer transfer window for €28 million.

The 24-year-old first moved to the Serie A giants in the 2021 winter window on a six-month-long loan spell, following which the move was made permanent.

The English international has been highly impressive in Italy, forming an integral part of the Milan setup that is leading the league table currently.

His form has gotten him in the reckoning for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s 2022 FIFA World Cup plans, indicating that Tomori has come quite some way from his troublesome days at Chelsea, where he failed to cement a spot in the first team.
