Manchester United are determined to complete the signing of Lisandro Martinez by Friday having held further talks with Ajax over the weekend.
Erik ten Hag is eager to bring his former Ajax centre-half to Old Trafford and while Arsenal are also in the race for his signature, Martinez is understood to be keen on a reunion with his former manager.
The Athletic report United are in advanced negotiations over a deal to sign the 24-year-old with reports in Netherlands claiming they want a deal wrapped up before the squad departs for their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia on Friday.
United have made a bid of €41million plus €4m in add-ons with Ajax ‘willing to cooperate’ with the Premier League side, according to De Telegraaf, who report technical manager Gerry Hamstra and his assistant Klaas Jan Huntelaar held talks with the club on Saturday.
Arsenal have also made three bids for the Argentina international with Ajax thought to be holding out for a deal worth €50m.
Martinez is currently on holiday and while reports claim he would favour a move to Manchester, no final decision has been made.
United want a deal done quickly so Martinez can join them on their tour which will see them in action against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in the coming weeks.
Tyrell Malacia is expected to be part of that group with his arrival from Feyenoord expected to be confirmed on Monday.
The 22-year-old left-back is poised to become the first signing of the ten Hag era, with United also still pushing for a deal to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.
