First signing: Manchester United ‘closing in’ on defender signing, regarded as one of ‘top young talents’ in Europe:…

Manchester United are seemingly closing in on their first signing of the summer, in the form of Tottenham youngster Jayden Meghoma.

Well, it has been a pretty quiet transfer window for Manchester United thus far, particularly in terms of incoming signings.

No deals have been made yet and with pre-season training set to start next week, I’d imagine Erik ten Hag is feeling pretty frustrated.

According to CaughtOffside, the Reds are about to get the first name through the door. Though it’s not who you’d typically expect…

The report claims that United are ‘closing in’ on the signing of young defender Jayden Meghoma. He currently pies his trade for Tottenham Hotspur.

CaughtOffside adds that Meghoma, 15, is regarded as one of the ‘top young talents in Europe in his position. High praise indeed.

United are expecting a deal will be ‘wrapped up soon’, adding Meghoma to an already stacked U18 side.

Meghoma has been impressive for Spurs and England’s U16s by all accounts, meaning United could have an absolute gem of a footballer on their hands – though it’ll take a few years before we start to reap those rewards.

Adding Meghoma to the U18 talent pool at Old Trafford feels pretty insane. Don’t forget about the recent FA Youth Cup win. The likes of Rhys Bennett, Kobbie Mainoo and Isak Hansen will no doubt help the youngster on his way to the top, too.

I love deals like this as there is very little risk involved. Meghoma is so young that the transfer fee will be next to nothing, while if United develop him properly, they could reap the rewards in the not too distant future.
