Four position that Xavi wants Barcelona to sign players in the summer

As plans for the upcoming summer transfer window start to take shape, Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has a clear picture of what he wants in the market before next season.

Barça have already closed two signings for the summer, in the form of Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie. The duo will arrive on Bosman deals from Chelsea and AC Milan, respectively.

However, according to Cat Radio, beyond that Xavi still wants at least four more new signings to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

The main priority for the manager, as things stand, is a top striker. Even though Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has done well, Xavi wants to add another prolific goalscorer to his ranks who can add more strength to the frontline in the summer.

Robert Lewandowski continues to be linked strongly, although names like Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan) and Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) are also being considered.

The second position that Xavi wants to bolster is the left-back slot, where he wants to bring a player who can compete with Jordi Alba. The veteran has played almost relentlessly without any proper rest due to the lack of cover, which is something the manager wishes to address.

Jose Gaya has been on the club’s radar for a while but looks set to sign a new contract at Valencia. So, it remains to be seen who the Catalan giants decide to go after.

Xavi also wants a new right-back, as per the report, although that might be subject to the futures of Dani Alves and Sergino Dest. The former’s contract expires at the end of the season and talks of an extension are yet to be held. The latter continues to be linked with a summer exit.

Noussair Mazraoui had been linked with Barça but has seemingly chosen to sign for Bayern Munich. But the Blaugrana remain hopeful of getting in Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea.

Finally, Xavi has also demanded Barcelona sign a new right-winger if Ousmane Dembele does not renew his contract and leaves on a free transfer. Talks over a new deal with the Frenchman have been resumed, but there is no guarantee that an agreement will be reached.

Furthermore, Adama Traore is unlikely to be signed on a permanent deal, which would accentuate the need for a right-sided wide player. Leeds United’s Raphinha is reportedly a key target.

With the summer transfer window not very far, it remains to be seen how Barcelona fare in the market. But sealing Champions League qualification will be of utmost importance, financially as well as to attract the best of players around.
