Marseille ‘strongly’ pursuing the signing of 27-year-old Barcelona centre-back

Clement Lenglet, alongside Gerard Pique, formed the core of the Barcelona defensive unit during their 2018/19 Champions League. The team was oh-so-close to the final, only losing out in the semi-finals against Liverpool in a 3-4 two-legged thriller.

While he was an essential part of the team during that season, helping them to the league title, his importance in the team, along with his performances, have spiralled since.

As such, Barcelona are courting offers for him in the hopes of freeing up some space in the squad for another centre-back.

According to SPORT, Olympique Marseille are pursuing Lenglet ‘strongly’. In fact, they are looking to sign several players from Barcelona this season. They have asked a list of all players that could leave in the summer, and will plan their window accordingly.

Previous reports stated that Miralem Pjanic and Nico Gonzalez are two midfielders of interest to Marseille, but no official bid has been submitted at the time.

With William Saliba leaving the club to return to Arsenal after loan, Marseille do certainly need a replacement. Lenglet could end up costing them nearly €15-20 million, but the move is in its very early stages right now.
