Nightmare start for Man United boss Ten Hag as star player decides he wants to leave

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been faced with a nightmare start to life at Old Trafford as last season’s top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly pushing for a move away from the club.

As per The Sun, the Portuguese forward is seeking a new challenge and doesn’t feel part of Ten Hag’s plans.

Ronaldo, 37, finished his first season back in England as United’s top scorer with 24 goals in all competitions, and is contracted to the club until next summer.

According to the reports credited form Spain though, the Red Devils’ talisman has decided he wants to leave the club.

A return to Real Madrid could be on the cards for the Portugal international; the forward joined the Spanish side from United back in 2009 for a fee of £84.6 million which, at the time, was a world record.

Ronaldo is currently on international duty with Portugal

At the age of 37, though, Ronaldo is unlikely to command a significant fee, which would make United reluctant to sell this summer.

Speculation had been building throughout the course of the season that the ex-Juventus man would depart this summer, but he appeared to commit his immediate future to the club at the end of the season and it was expected that he would honour the entirety of his two-year deal.

Ronaldo has scored 142 goals and provided 71 assists in 330 games for the Red Devils over his two spells with the club.
