PSG’s proposed £25m move for Arsenal star creates space for Edu to enhance attacking firepower

Paris Saint-Germain could hand Arsenal a major boost in the summer transfer window. The Parisian side have the chance to sign Nicolas Pepe, which would give Edu extra funds in the summer transfer window.

According to French news outlet Foot Mercato, Pepe has been offered to several clubs including PSG. The Ligue 1 side’s new sporting director reportedly likes the Ivorian international, and even signed him when he was at Lille.

It seems Pepe’s career at Arsenal has come to a disappointing end. However, if Edu can raise the necessary funds for the winger then it could play an important part in improving Mikel Arteta’s summer recruitment ahead of next season.

According to The Sun, Arsenal wants to sell Pepe this summer to raise funds for transfers. They are prepared to take a massive hit on £72m they paid for him. The Gunners are reportedly prepared to accept £25m for the winger.

Keeping him beyond two years remaining on his contract will massively debunk his value and increase the threat of losing him on a free transfer which would be an absolute nightmare considering his £72million price tag.

According to Spanish news outlet Superdeporte, Sevilla have also made contact with Arsenal over the signing of Pepe. The report goes on to say that the Gunners are prepared to let him leave.

The Ivorian joined the club in 2019 for a club-record fee of £72million from Lille with the highest of expectations due to his success in Ligue 1, but has only contributed with 27 goals and 17 assists in three years.

If the Gunners were to sell Pepe at the end of the season, then competition alongside Saka would certainly be needed. Despite the excellent performances the Englishman has shown for Arsenal throughout the season, there has been times when he has shown signs of burnout, with Arteta admitting at the end of the season that the youngster needs rest. Having someone who can help successfully share the attacking load would certainly be beneficial.

Arsenal have already been linked to many players who would likely find more success at the Emirates than their predecessor in Pepe. According to SportBILD, Arsenal identified Diaby as the player who could be the ideal Pepe replacement. Bayer Leverkusen reportedly asking for €100million (£84million) for the French International. BILD added that should Diaby force a move elsewhere, the figure could drop to €75million (£63million) instead.

The Gunners have also been linked with a transfer reunion for Serge Gnabry. According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Arsenal have registered their interest to sign the winger.

Pepe’s time as an Arsenal player certainly seems like it has reached its end. The Gunners have good replacements lined up, so PSG could be handing a major favour by accepting the proposal to sign Pepe.
