Report: Chelsea now interested in £19m hard-man who Ben Chilwell called ‘really aggressive’

Chelsea have now reportedly set their sights on snapping up Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu.

According to AS, the Blues ‘intend to sign’ the centre-back as they look to replace the departing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Do Chelsea actually intend to sign Soyuncu?

Admittedly, Soyuncu probably wouldn’t be the supporters’ first-choice in terms of stepping into Rudiger or Christensen’s shoes.

He has dropped off the radar somewhat since leaving Freiburg to join the Foxes for £19m (Sky Sports) in 2018.

The defender had to bide his time at the King Power, with Harry Maguire and Johnny Evans ahead of him in the pecking order.

But Maguire’s move to Manchester United in 2019 allowed Soyuncu to step up and show his quality.

In that same season, the Turkey international proved to be one of the finest defensive forces in the division.

He started all but for four of Leicester’s Premier League games, missing the final three through suspension.

Despite the sour conclusion to the campaign, the 26-year-old’s general performances earned him a place in the PFA Team of the Year, along with fellow Fox Jamie Vardy.
