Roy Keane once urged Man United not to sign star Red Devils have offered deal to

Manchester United are hoping to sign PL star Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, with The Athletic reporting the Red Devils have offered him a contract.

Eriksen will be a free agent from July 1 after his short-term contract with Brentford expires.

The 31-year-old impressed in Manchester United’s win over Brentford – earning praise from Red Devils legend and pundit Roy Keane in the process,

Keane was quoted by Football London: “He’s the bit of quality, he’s the one bit of hope to get back into the game. He’s fantastic. We have seen with his ball for Toney’s header. All the good stuff has come through Eriksen.”

Keane once told United not to sign Christian Eriksen

Keane’s admiration for Eriksen was a sign he appreciates his qualities. Whether this means he would back him to sign for Manchester United, is another matter – that can be open to interpretation.

What we do know, is that two years ago, Keane came out and urged United not to sign Christian Eriksen, when the possibility of a switch was speculated on.

Sky Sports News “Would I take him? Not if I was manager of Man United. I think he will get a move, he’s on a free, but I don’t think he’ll improve those teams and that’s the key for a club like Man United who are trying to close the gap.

“He won’t make Man United better… having said that, Man United bought Fred.”

United’s situation has changed somewhat since a couple of years ago. The squad has just lost Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard, and requires some strengthening.

Plus, nobody is talking about a Manchester United title challenge right now. The team need to rebuild and ‘close the gap’ on the top four first, before the top two – Eriksen could play a very positive role in helping the Red Devils rebuild.

New manager Erik ten Hag appears to be in favour, with United offering the Dane a contract. Now the final decision will come down to the player himself.
